Proform crank rotation tool

I always just used the balancer bolt... i guess I'm doing it wrong!

you do not want to strip the threads in the crank or break the head of the bolt off.....you have been lucky so far....🙂

but If for whatever reason you have to use the bolt, remove all the plugs and your safest bet is to turn it using a clicker torque wrench set to 65 ft/lbs
 
I have used that Proform tool on many big and small blocks with multiple styles of balancers and never had a fitment issue.
As far as balancer bolts I use ARP hex head style with a 1/2" square drive in the middle so I can rotate the engine once it is assembled with pulleys and installed in the car using clockwise rotation and no spark plugs.
