i recently got a 326 v8 off my neighbor for free and it came with an edlbrock intake, holley carb, roller rocker arms, and i believe it has 187 heads on it ...i want to know if this engine is worth my while because currently in my 83 bonneville is a 231 v6 and the v8 needs to be rebuilt gaskets etc but I want to know if with these parts is it a solid engine in the 300 hp range .....i also believe the cam is not stock because my neighbor said it wasnt but he wasnt 100% sure

Congratulations on your engine! Its a great little Pontiac V8. There are a few other things you must do to fit that in your G-body because its older than 1968.

You'll need the motor mounts from a 301 (4.9 litre) V8 car or the smaller 265 V8 car. Those are the Pontiac V8 variants. next, you'll need an adapter plate that allows the old 1960's Pontiac engine blocks to bolt on the newer motor mounts. After that you're set. You can get them from a guy like Jim Butler Performance or he'll direct you where to go to get them.

Have fun!!

And it should easily produce 300Hp with the proper camshaft. You have the rest of the parts already. Also buy headers for the 301.

thanks for the input
so i found 301 motor mounts that fit a 77-80 bonneville is that what im looking for and
Engine Mount Adaptor Kit to put Pre 1969 Engines in 1970 & Up Chassis $49.95 from butler
i should be all set them nice

That's exactly what you need.

The next thing that will help a lot is using the hoses for a 301 equipped car, when you go to the parts store. Don't forget to pick up a 1975 or newer big cap HEI distributor for a Pontiac V8.

A couple things.

There are no headers made for your car with a 301 or 326 since IA went t*ts up.

For your goals logs or ram air manifolds would work fine. Use good mandrel downpipes (Pypes) with 2 1/2 exhaust will be plenty.

Some here have modified shorty headers to work but dynos have shown there are not needed at your projected hp goals.

Read this: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=19327&start=15

The only difference is the 326 (vs 400) needs the adapters, which you already have covered.

Be carefull of the Bonny mounts also. I have found engine mounts from the "early non metric" cars make the engine sit higher and hood clearance is already at a premium. Makes trans tunnel tight also.

You need engine mounts from a Gbody car that has a 301. My supply is getting low but have a few sets left.

Don't forget you need a BOP trans also.

Good luck, I love seeing people using a traditional Pontiac instead of the ,all to common ,SBC swap.

You will love the torque!

instead of using the shorty headers i can use the ram air exhaust manifold? and those wont need to be customized at all ?
my transmission should be BOP because the engine in my pontiac is actually a buick so it should be good right?

Ram air or logs are a bolt in deal.

Don't know v6s that well but I do know there are 90 degree and 60 degree v6. The 60 will not work.

Best to get under the car and check the pan to see what trans it is. A th350 would be fine, a metric200 will last for a while.

What year is the car?

The Buick V6 transmission will bolt to a Pontiac V8, so no problems there. The rear wheel drive Buick V6 engines used in these cars (3.8 and 4.1) use the B-O-P transmission bolt pattern. No 60 degree V6 was ever used in our cars. The chevy 200/229 and 4.3 V6 all use the chevy V8 pattern. Chevy V6 engines had the distributor in the back like a chevy V8 and the Buick engines had the distributor in the front on the driver's side like their V8's had.

You will need to get a TV Bracket for your carb so that you can hook the TV cable to your engine to run it.

I would check the engine code and see what compression you have. Back then even 2 barrel motors had 8 or 9 to 1 and the HO motors had 10.5 to 1. If you get pinging then later 350 heads will pull the compression down.

i just checked and the transmission is the th350 (a little off topic but the transmission has been kicking slightly when put in reverse and drive ..need more fluid? )
and add a tv bracket to the list
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-376710/
so the list so far
tv bracket
301 motor mounts
301 hoses
Engine Mount Adaptor Kit
ram air manifolds
mandrel downpipes (Pypes)
HEI distributor

should all the wiring be fine for this swap and the current heads on the 326 are 187 heads im pretty sure ill double check tomorrow any comments about the heads whether they should stay or be replaced
