Alright, I transferred the O'Reilly pump to my original tank this evening. Now I'm pondering two things, should I use the non-A/C or A/C pump brackets (was originally an A/C car, not sure if I'll go back to A/C) & should I run actual PS fluid or the ol' Dextron like I have done in the past (it's what they used back in the day.)
For the brackets I have almost everything for both set ups (pump has the A/C set up stud in the back so no non-A/C plug bolt, no A/C compressor, no non-A/C pump pulley.) I want a clean look & know it won't take long to swap out if I go back to A/C but never thought I'd be questioning of how to set it up.
I haven't picked up any fluid yet so I'm just wondering more on what everyone is using. If I had an automatic that used Dextron I would just use it cause I'd have it on hand anyways (one reason why I was using it before & what my '72 used.)

I've never had any issues with over heating with the pumps on any of my cars using Dextron. But since I don't have any of either the power steering fluid would be the better choice then. When it gets hot it doesn't bother me, the car never did have working A/C since '90. I didn't even used it in the old truck & it blew ice cold. Hell, I grew up not having A/C functioning in a car & those Ga summers did get pretty hot.

My fun car doesn't have it but right about the time I'm sweating like a wh*re in church I wish it did!

I swapped out the brackets to the A/C set up & the stud on the back won't line up with the adjustment slot on the bracket. Everything else lines up but that. All the brackets are off the engine that I got the pulleys off of. The pump tank is my original with the reman pump.

There are a lot of good pictures in this thread which might help.....

In the discussion I learned that my setup wasn't 100% complete/correct but others posted good pics. I likely have pics of pulling the p/s pump on my laptop if that will help.

I looked over that thread but I didn't see the rear bracket (mounts at the front of the exhaust manifold & where '55-'57 motor mounts go.) From looking at the parts break down in the parts catalog I have all the brackets (the main one on pump, the front of the head, the one that goes on the manifold & A/C compressor, & the one noted above.) I'll have to make time to mock it up off the motor.

Haven't go a chance to do the off motor mock up due to honey-do lists. I did dig up a scan of the brackets. #13 is the one giving my the issues.

Found out why I'm having issues, the pump bracket is bent on the side that bolts to the water pump & head. Thats what causing the odd fit to the A/C brackets. This came off the donor engine that supplied the newer pulleys. My original had the spacer fall off in several pieces. Thinking of grinding off the bent one's space to fix the original. But I might have an lead on a NOS bracket.
