Public Service Announcement:

I was piddling around on Ebay looking for little trinket items that I might need that I don't have (aka, wasting time) and ebay's search engine pops up stuff I wasn't even looking for. Anyway, one of the items was a nose rocket 22528812 reproduction for a paltry $135. 135!!!! It never actually says it is NOS or imitation in the ad, but it sort of implies it's NOS. At least how I perceived it reading the ad.

This is not to stomp on anyone's ability to burn the unsuspecting, as it is perfectly legal to separate fools from their money as long as it's done in good faith. If you seek it, you inspect it, and buy it anyway knowing what it is for the high asking price, you would be the fool with the money. But don't be a fool.

Understand that the nose rocket for the 87/88 Cutlass is EXTREMELY RARE to find in NOS condition nowadays. You will more often pay dearly for NOS still in the baggie. But reproduction ones are just a boat ride from China away. THESE NEW ONES ARE ALL REPROS ON EBAY. Close inspection doesn't lend itself to NOS standards, although consensus is this is a decent repro overall. Obviously, if you don't have one or it's cruddy and busted, a repro would be better than nothing, but even so, buy it from The Parts Place. They sell the repros for $59 plus shipping. Save your $$. Or buy two for less than the price of some of the ebay ones.

Here's just one ebay ad for $135. I guess if idiots want to pay the price, then by all means, take their money, but you don't have to fall into that trap for this part. Every new repro part on ebay can more often than not be found somewhere else, and mostly for less. Shop around. If you hate the Parts Place and will never shop there, then don't buy it. Far as I know, they're the only source for this repro part.

I did a reproduction parts vs NOS comparison on the Olds dash emblem, 198 compressor decal and the 87-88 nose emblem here, in case anyone was interested:

In today's world of internet information, you'd be a fool or incredibly lazy to not price shop before buying anything.

I usually buy from the vendor that has best combination of price, reputation, shipping charge, and ethics. This leaves out some very big players in the G body world, but so be it.

I’ve almost given up on eBay because they allow search entries to be nothing near related to why you’re searching for.

Dang, it’s easier to find a reputable, reliable and honest local vendor, or online vendor. I try to stick with anyone that been those three adjectives.

I often wonder if the "price gougers" are eBay-er's selling crap actually run multiple seller profiles. what I mean is, on a typical sales item price distribution, you will see the occasional low-priced item, the occasional high-priced item, but most of the items cluster around a common price. what I've been seeing on eBay and Amazon and other places is an even distribution of 30%+ items priced high, 40% in the middle, and the rest at low prices.

are the "price gougers" using multiple shill sellers to convince buyers "see? the price is that high, I'm not the only one!" ?
