Pulled 454 out of truck for cutlass

I bought the truck last year for the engine. I paid 250 for the whole truck. It was a 85 chevy 1 ton. The engine runs the reason the construction company sold is because the trans went out. So when I pulled it out I was supprised to see it has been rebuilt before. Here are a few pictures of the engine.

Not real sure yet. This is all new to me looking for some good ideas. But I do want it to have a lumpy idle.

Good deal for $250! From the pics the inside looks clean too. You might get away with minimal investment on this one.

Blazenlotus all i can tell is the stock valve gear is no good.If you put a cam in a bbc you best be doing the heads with bronze valve guides and ss valve or your going to drop a valve.all i use is big block chevs and seen a block and head get f@@ked at idle do to a used ss valve on a new springs it just stop running. hole in block and head bashed piston gone along with rod.

leave it stock and just leave a couple of plug wires off...

That's an awsome find for $250.....does the rebuilt plate say it's bored 30 over? if it is it's a 461. You probably almost broke even when you junked the truck...

Believe it or not this is the first vechicle I have ever came out ahead on. I usually go in the hole when I buy junk. I sold the cab with title for $200 the dually rear for $400 and junked the frame and sold the ten foot flatbed for another $300.

nice score but you should have kept the dually rear....you could have made the first dually donk...
