The need for a relay depends on what kind of switch you are using. If you are using something like the one in the Jeg's link, there should be no need for a relay. If you are using something that is designed for low amperage, I would use a relay. My question is this, however: wiring up a switch to the starter does not eliminate the key. You would still need to turn the key on, then push the switch. What's the point of doing that? Why would someone want to add another step to start the car?
The setup I posted the link to eliminates the existing keyed setup. That's a true keyless pushbutton start system like you would see in some newer vehicles. You just get into the car and push the start button. As long as you have the proximity fob on you or in the car, the car will start.
