Well my email didn't go through and then I noticed that that car club is in Ottawa, although they might know what is going on in Quebec.

I sent a PM to one of the guys at MCSS.com who lives in Montreal to see if he has any insight on this Steve.
I will let you know if I hear from him.

Hi

Well I read through the thred but I need to know what kind of modifications we are talking here? As a garage owner I was involved in the provincial inspection here in Quebec .
From what I know...any car driving on the the roads of Quebec, has to obey the laws of Quebec, where the car is plated does not matter. From what I gather this law - in one shape or form - exists in every province in Canada, bottom line....
Its up to the discretion of the Police officer. For sure if you are running a open exhaust and your car is slammed to the ground shooting sparks and starting forest fires, yes you got problems, but if its like 90% of the other muscle cars we have here, your ok. We have a huge annual muscle/hot rod meet in the city of Granby and I never heard of problems. These "trompet" laws (exhaust) came about because of the mass popularity of the 4 cyl racers bombing in the residential streets at 2 am. When I drove across Canada with my Monte, Vancouver to Montreal, the only place I got ...checked ... was Ontario, for drugs of all things 🙄. Driving across our beautiful country in Gbody was one of the highlights in my life, I recommend it to anyone (am I wrong Guy?🙂). The only worry I would have is an overly loud exhaust (anywhere in Canada) if you are worried about it, pop on an extra resonator.

The info you posted on the SAAQ site seems to pertain more to Quebec residence.

If I can help, shoot me a PM

Thank you for posting that info, it sounds similar to here is the laws about modifying you car are targeted toward the ricer breeds. My car is lowered about 2.5" with wider tires, 5 speed stick and duels that are not too loud. It has 2 cats and 2 mufflers and my egr is glued in place so it gets a pass if I get stopped by the emission enforcers.

Thanks for replying Frank.
And you are right about taking a G Body on a long drive.
My wife and I had a blast on our trip to Ontario a couple of years ago.
Steve sounds like you will be just fine.
I can see that pick up getting hassled,I've seen lots of those lifted trucks in Alberta and they stand out a mile away.

No emission testing here, some police do visually check for cats tho

I didn't mean my GP has to go through emissions, any car built before 88 is exempt. Ontario have enforcement officers who have more power than the police. They can stop you when they want for no cause and force you to open the hood to check for emission equipment. The fine is $385 if you have tampered with the emission equipment.
