Question about 403 swap

I had the motor running for a few years in my T/A with the regular carb and HEI and it was great and you are absolutely right that it is much easier to fix. But I am kind of curious how this set up would respond, not to mention if it wasn't a better set up then a regular Q Jet then GM would have canceled it after a year or so, like the 4-6-8 caddy. I also really want to look into the EPROM that will change the advance curve. I think I am going to try this set up. I also like what I have found on that page. Where would the knock sensor be if it was equip with it? The page says 86 and up so I want to double check it.

My 1986 definitely does not have a knock sensor, nor is one discussed in the Chassis Service Manual, so I do not believe that is correct.

Swapping 307 to 403

I have pulled out two 307s in the past say 4 yrs. One was 86 one was 87,neither of them had a knock sensor. The only problem I had with the CCC carb. was at wide open throttle it tended to run out of fuel, because the bowl is already full of electronics, and no room for gas.But I had a heavy foot,if your father just drives it daily and wants a little extra torque it should be fine.

The only "electronics" in the float bowl is the mixture control solenoid. The plastic baffle in the bowl is resized to accommodate, so the total volume in the bowl is no different. More likely the fuel pump was weak.

I had the same problem with a 70 q jet on my 455, I would go down the street and shift through all 3 gears at red line and by third it would start to bog. I wound up just installing a Holley "red pump" fuel pump and then regulating pressure down to 5 psi and it never gave me trouble again. I could probably do that on the cutlass to.
