Picked up a 455 today, came with intake and headers. 73 with j heads that will be replaced. Manifold has been welded around the exhaust crossover on the bottom. Seems I’ve seen that before. Common the have this done? Engine going in a 83 Cutlass bracket Drag car. See no numbers on the headers. From looking at them is there any possibility they will fit the Cutlass? Thanks

A heat crack? It can happen but not that often. That motor will also have huge dish pistons for 8 to 1, if still stock. Good luck.

Appears to be a-body bbo headers. They wont fit a g-body with out some modifications.

Only decent headers that fit inside the rails could have been had from Dick Miller, but well, that ain't happening any longer I don't believe.

Hooker 3203 headers had a very nice set with a wrap-around the frame pipe, but those too, are no longer available.

TBH, I don't know who's making a decent 455 swap header for G-body any more. So, I'm useless.

Thanks for the replies. J heads are going in the junk pile. Got it hoping it is a builder and not a pos like the
last one(old running when pulled saying). Block? And crank only thing left from that one. intake should be ok(blocking off the heat crossover) If i use it. Leaning more towards a dual plane intake. As for the headers I guess I’ll just have to try them and see.

I believe the $1500 stainless ARH headers are available and fit very nice. They should for the price. We have seen the videos, hammering supposedly doesn't effect HP. Either that, cut bend and reweld. Finding good 455 blocks seems to becoming an issue, good thing I only run the SBO. Good luck, hopefully being a J head motor, it was less abused.

Installed the engine to ck fitment. Going to build solid mounts off the Chevy frame mounts. Other than a minor trim of the lower control arm mount the rs header fits as is. Hopefully the driver side won’t give me much trouble. As to et if it gets into the 12 sec bracket I’ll be good.
