I used to use this book all the time on our Bugs. The humor and information was priceless!

"How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step by Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot"

John Muir; Tosh Gregg I believe this pic is from that book. Correct me if you know otherwise.

I had a copy when I had my Karma Ghia. It was both informative & entertaining. Lost it some how during the move from Pittsburgh to Armstrong County.

Small note, from literature I’ve found, this is a school rifle (training), but the Tokyo Arsenal stamping over the Imperial Chrysanthemum is rather light, leaving it rather intact.

I’m unsure wether or not the triple 0 prefix on the serial number was added after it was taken out of service, or this rifle was really early. Either way this rifle is well over a century old, and came from Guadalcanal area after my grandfather nearly lost his life aboard Quincy at the Battle of Savo Island.
Definitely some history on that one. My Grandfather as well as his brother were over in Europe during WWII, saw that front.

Interesting you mention a Training Rifle, I have one as well.

U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, Cal 45-70. This is the Cadet Rifle used at West Point to train troops. Made in 1890, about 95% condition still fires with the correct spec ammo. I have the Sling, Bayonet, and a couple Ammo Pouches from the same era.
