Hello all, just bought 1st g body and i think its pretty rare. Its a v8 (305) factory 4 speed,Malibu, also got the build sheet with it listing all the options. Hard for me to believe it but sold for $8985.19 when new. Body is in good shape but needs paint, needs new interior. Anyone know production numbers for V8 4 speed cars?

Sounds like a great find, not many of them out there. Does it have the factory stereo, and a/c or heat? Some of them were special ordered with radio delete etc.

My 79 Grand Am came stock with a 301 and automatic transmission, and I think 3.23 gears. I put in a 4 speed, Pontiac 400, and 3.73 gears.

Enjoy it!

Nice! Welcome!

Nice find, sounds like it's loaded. How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? Any pics yet?

sorry to burst your bubble your cars technically not a G-body even tho the chassis is the same.. its a late A-body.. still a badass body style tho

Nice, definately a rare car! Is it a two door?
Always loved the Malibu body style...

In a sense it is a G Body just in the same sense that all 82-88's are A bodies.
All GM did was change the A body platform to the FWD models because that was the way the company was moving in the future and it was their company policy (for manufacturing reasons) to give the main carline the A body designation to their primary featured models.
A bodies started out as RWD fullsize then to RWD midsize to FWD midsize and starting as far back as 1953 when platform names were introduced. A bodies started off as full size in the 50's which became designated as B-Bodies in 61 when GM moved it's focus to selling midsize vehicles which changed to G body when they changed focus to FWD which was finally phased out in 1996.
In the end all A body carlines get changed or canceled.

Any pics?

80 MALIBU WOULD BE A G BODY DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME CHASSIS OF A A BODY? 64-72 WERE A BODYS, 78-88 MALIBU, MONTE, CUTLASS,GRAND PRIX, LEMANS, ELCAMINO, WERE ALL CLASSED AS G BODY'S. THATS ALWAYS HOW I UNDERSTOOD IT? I DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING THOUGH, BUT I AM PRETTY SURE I AM RIGHT ON THIS ONE.
