somehow, with me i always come across a car that seems "rare" or a car that looks like a POS but turns out to be very nice, even if this is a "rare" car,i still want to drive it,its been sitting for a while now so i dont expect that i need to shell out some dollars for brake lines and tires.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO USE A SUPPOSEDLY RARE CAR FOR A WINTER BEATER? TO EACH HIS OWN I GUESS.

Its a thousand freaking dollars. You can't be overpaying by more than a few hundred. If you want it, buy it. So what if you overpay for it a bit. If you want the astroroof, you could waste more than a few hundred dollars worth of your time looking for another if you pass this one up. Offer a few hundred less for it and enjoy the fact that you bought the car that you want. After all, you are out to please yourself. Not some folks on some website you have never met.

you dont want that thing.... i paid 250 for mine with a running olds 350 didnt need to much body work floors are solid all i had to do was replace a 2 foot fuel line and took it to the strip and ran a low 15 and all i did was put fuel in it mind you its not the best looking car but i couldnt beat it ......what you need to find out is HOW long has it been sitting in that grass because that will do a number on that car if you are really interested i would definately look it over and over again with that rust running down that door its most likely been sitting in that spot for 2 or more years which isnt a good thing

like the other guys said.... you only live once, live it how you want, paying what you want to get what you want.... yeah, there may be other cars out there in better condition for less money... but this one seems to just be screaming you name from what you've said... hell, maybe it's begging you to save it from *Robosaurus... if you want this car... buy it, whether it's financially worth it or not. My dad and uncle BOTH told me $1200 was WAY too much for my cutlass... my dad said it was worth only $300 because it didn't have a motor, and the "rebuilt" transmission that came with it was a TH350 that had been sitting out in the rain for a month. (the car is an 86 that came with a 307... which doesn't use a TH350....)

But my dad had bought his 87 brand new in 88, (i was born in 91) and i grew up in that car, and i think about it every day... we drove everywhere in it, as a family, we put 276,000 on the origional 307 with out any work outside of an intake gasket and a new carb. (the carb was good, but the mechanics who were suppossed to be doing an oil change decided to **** with it.... it was a california model so it had high altitude jets in it, but the stupid *ss mechanics had no idea that's what they were, so they thought they were extra holes and filled them with epoxy....) i loved/love that car to death and i miss it very much... so when my sister found my current one, i had jumped on it with out thinking twice.

i had a friend with an 87 cadillac brougham with a 307 in it, so i bought his engine and transmission for $500 on top of the price of the car...

if you really want this car, buy it!!! happiness comes before anything..

On a side note (not wanting to hijack the thread) My grandfather has a 78 GMC Suburban - Sierra Classic, 305 - 2bbl, 4 speed manual, 4x4, dual A/C, aftermarket AM/FM-8 Track. I bet that's rare. Doesn't mean it's worth a pile of money.110k miles on it.

Totally agree. I paid 2800 for my 79 cutlass, which is super clean. Owner wanted 3K. He replaced the cam (kept it stock!!! WTF?), water pump, fuel pump, a/c, timing chain, rebuilt Q-jet. Has aftermarket wheels, which I'm keeping for now.

Needs exhaust and various tweaks.

I already replaced the ignition system and fixed alot of paint problems and added a kick *ss stereo and speakers.

A few hundred bucks is not a deal breaker and it depends on where you live. I was looking at shitty MC's and all were over 1-2K. I say shitty because they probably needed more than 2k in work. When I look at it that way, my cutlass was a steal.
