I see, Kind of confusing. In other words the numbers mean this depending on that.
Well. I think I'm going to save some bucks toward an aluminum head purchase.
And sell off the stockers. Even at $200 to $250 for the pair subtracted from the price new
on the Aluminum heads which I've found some nice ones for right around $850 pair price
That would net me about a $600 to $650 upgrade cost...
Well worth the wait. Lighter engine, more power, Easier to work with....

I do not know what My pistons look like on top. All I can say is it was a GM performance crate 350
330 hp. Gen1 block. 4 Bolt main, cast crank and con rods. I assume the pistons are flattop.
I can dig up some specs and see for sure though.

According to the site where I purchased the motor the engine cyl's have 72cc and dished aluminum pistons.
Cam profile is just under 0.480" on both intake and exhaust. 114 degree center line.

let's say if you have 9:1 compression now with a 72 cc head then with no other changes going with a 64 cc head I would estimate around 9.7 to 9.8 comp. and going even smaller with a 58 cc head with put you at around 10.5 or so.
It would depend on the actual compression you have now but I would think a 64 cc would more than suite your needs and still be plenty safe for pump gas while using a performance head gasket versus a factory steel shim to raise compression.
And yes I know all the numbers can be confusing.

Cool info thanks. I'll search for 64cc volume heads. and yes pump gas friendly for sure.
Not ready for anything close to big time like you yet.... 🙂

My first few engine builds and swaps were SBC 350's along with playing with a couple Pontiac engines.
I got a really good deal on my first BBC 454 from the guy I rebuilt it for after he blew the rearend in his Nova and I have had BBC's ever since.

I never got used to seeing the header tube wrapped around the steering shaft as being a good thing.
I have been a mazda Miata owner. and had a chance to see a 93 miata (very similar to mine) With
a 350 corvette motor in it. From the outside it looked stock. But open the hood and man oh man.
It was a work of art. A/C and all. 6 speed, Narrowed ford 9". and this guy was in his mid 60's.
when we left the show he took it up the I 4 ramp headed west and was not letting up on it.
That thing sounded bad azz. and was a sizzler.
I took mine to several shows and no judges were even remotely interested in it. I put countless
hours into the car. At the last show, I told my wife "I should just get a Chevy" And within 1 year
purchased the monte carlo bone stock and not running. Within just 9 months we were at the same show
we had the miata in and took first place, Then next year a second place.
The car is better than that now. Just got to get the paint done. The motor mods are on the plate
so to speak....
