If I worked closer to home, I would have no problem DD-ing a classic, high HP car. I don't make enough money to feed 93 octane to something getting single digit mileage while doing 100 miles/day.

Its easier to do with modern cars than it is with older cars. Good example is a friend who has a 2016 Mustang GT 5.0 with an automatic.
His bolt ons are
Procharger supercharger kit with pump and software
Aftermarket torque converter
after market cat back exhaust.
Car is full weight with all of the original accessories and has run 9.80's at 139. He drives it to work at least 3 days a week (about 30+ miles each way).
The car is completely driveable; stock smooth idle, cold air, hot heat, etc.
That is also with an unopened engine and a stock transmission and stock suspension. To do it with an older car such as our G bodies you will have to replace or modify pretty much every driveline part as well as performing substantial suspension work to get it to hook.

12 miles one way to work, 24 miles a day... 50/50 City/Highway.

Currently, I can get away with 1.25 Gallons per day (18-19mpg)

Id go to 10-12 and up that to 2 gallons a day, no sweat.. which is about what a 6.6L 400 should be at after mods.. Im not entirely sure a modded 400 poncho with a 200-R4 and 3.73's would get to those types of times tho.. 12-13, sure.. lower than that? I dunno...

Drop into the single digits mpg tho... that'd hurt... not to mention the tickets that would start piling up from showing off :D

I've a had a slew of cars built between '79 and '91 that were either 3 or 4 season daily drivers in my "younger days" that meet most of the criteria above; but most were gone from the fleet by 2010. So what's left? The wagon and Monte.

1) Who do you know that daily drives a 25 year old V8 (Turbo Buicks and Dodges count too)?
Me. I am not certain if either will do 6000 miles in a year given I can only drive one at a time - hell, my TBSS only did 6000kms in the last year.

2) For those in the northern half of the US, is the car driven in the winter? Does it have a good heater/defroster? Air conditioner?
Cannot afford to piss away money so they are parked between the salty months. Wagon have heat and AC, Monte has heat.

3) Wipers? Full interior? Functioning windows? Passes required state inspection?
Yes to all.

4) Fuel injected or carbureted? Turbo or nitrous? Old school engine or LS/LT/late Hemi/Modular?
Both have EFI LS engines, the wagon has nitrous and the Monte has a turbo.

5) Can the car be driven long range at interstate speeds? What transmission and rear gears?
Both cars have huge radiators and electric fans. The wagon has a 4L80E w/3.73s and the Monte a 200-4R w/4.56s.

6) Is it able to be driven at any time or if it rains does the owner break out in hives?
Rain or shine, no issues. I just hate washing cars so there is that.

7) How fast is the car at the strip? 1/8 or 1/4 mile?
Wagon went 12.0 @116mph on flaky nitrous hit (the 1.7 60' indicated 11s for sure), and the Monte could go 10s if the weight and parts do as they are supposed to.

8) Any 7 second 1/8, or 11 second 1/4 mile daily drivers?
9) Any 6 second 1/8, or 10 second 1/4 mile daily drivers? Come on now...……...
10) Any 5 second 1/8, or 8 to 9 second 1/4 mile daily drivers? Seriously, surely somebody knows a person that is that dedicated.
9s would be nice, but the safety gear required will kill the street fun of the Monte.

Having them and not driving them as often as possible just seems silly to me.

Funny, when I saw the title, my first thought was that a real street car should see at least 10k miles per year.
You want to see v8s, but I'll be the first in line to throw the Series 2 up against a wheezy, low compression v8 of the era. Bring it, don't sing it!
TRUE THAT!! The 3800 is one of the best engines out there STILL! With normal maintenance will out live any northeastern body!

I guess my Bonneville counts on everything but mileage, since I only fairly recently got the mileage up to a decent level.

1. Me
2. I actually put more miles on it in the winter than the summer, since cheap seat covers and back sweat go together like Sonny and Cher. The heat works quite well and the A/C is all there, but needs a new compressor and recharged.
3. Everything that is installed on the car works properly except for the air conditioning, although the 2 speed wipers will keep me out of the car on misty days.
4. Carbureted 350, starts and runs great.
5. Currently have a TH200c with 2.41 rear gears and 205/75-R14 tires. I pretty regularly take it on 2-3 hour trips to see the kids and haven't seen any signs that it wouldn't go as far as I could feed it. It is a little higher revving than a newer car at 75, and overdrive is in the future plans, but it gets an honest 18 mpg in its current configuration and I could set the cruise at 90 and it would run there all day.
6. I can drive it in whatever weather, except ice as I just have better options in the driveway if the weather gets that nasty. Light rain is annoying with 2 speed wipers, but not life changing.
7. Who knows, it's quick enough to feel peppy, but likely only does low to mid 14's due to the 2.41's. Overdrive could allow 3.08's or 3.42's, which would bring that time down significantly, but that costs money.
