i'm thinking if i crack loose the hard line and then turn the hose i can get the clip in a better position to remove it.
Take a look at what Bonnewagon said again. The end of the hose just under the clip is hex-shaped, like a bolt head, so is the hole it goes into. It's like this to help keep the hose from twisting when you're loosening the hard line. Also try wiggling a small flathead screwdriver between the bracket & clip and working your way around the hose, it may help loosen it up & break up any corrosion. Even if you destroy the clip, sometimes new hoses come with replacement clips, and if not, chances are very good you can get a new clip while you're at the parts store.

That's a problem- the hex head on the hose is sitting in a hex shaped hole and the clip is holding it all tight to the frame. You gotta get some leverage to pry the clip away. Someone must have put it on from a screwy angle because I usually can get a screwdriver or brake adjusting tool on it and whack it off.

I try to whack it off at least once a day. I'm just too old to remember why!

that's what i'm guessing cuz where the edge rolls up into a lip, thats where the end that pulls out first is facing. if i could only find out who did that...i'd punch them in their face. they put the clip in and then turned it sideways, i guess to be a smartass.

i'll see if i can turn it some how, i doubt i can get a hammer up in there BUT i do have a 32 ounce ball peen hammer head, maybe....hmmm we'll see. i need shorter screwdrivers. i guess the cheapo precision screwdrivers will have to be called into service.

come to think of it, if i just get the hard line loose all i have to do is cut the hose end flush with the mounting surface and it'll come right out. a sawzall would be faster but i'll have to settle for my mini hacksaw. and i may get a new clip in case this one is junk.

Don't sweat the clip it's probably rusty as hell anyway. Local parts store has them for like $.60.

well i tried like hell and the line wouldnt come loose. the line is pretty rusted and i think it's keeping the fitting from turning at all. so i need to replace the hard line as well. it looked good everywhere except where that window is in front of the line. i guess it let sand and dirt blow on that line for all these years and made it rust. i dont know if GM has a prebent line or not but i'm gonna find out, i really am not in the mood to try and make a straight line from a parts store fit. i'm looking into getting stainless steel lines in the future. they're 180 bucks from classic tube.

Classic or Inline Tube will likely be your pre-bent candidates. PST (www.p-s-t.com) sells them as well. Have you tried cleaning the area with a wire brush to see what's going on?

i looked at it with a flashlight and i doubt a wire brush is gonna get this clean enough. the fitting just will not budge period. i even had vise grips on it and it still wouldnt budge. it's not a big deal to me, it's just a hard line and it's not the end of the world. i've been wanting to upgrade the entire brake system from the lines up anyway. i didnt want to replace a line THEN do the upgrading. i dont have the money to do a stainless steel kit right now so i'll have to replace this one line first. again, not a big deal i just find it annoying that little window was there in the right place to ensure the end of the hard line corroded and rusted. i'm not even sure why it's there since i cant get a flare nut wrench through it as it's too close to the floor pan where the back seat is. after this i'm blocking off that hole to prevent this nonsense from happening again.
