looking for some advice on the right rear coil spring i have 87 Olds cutlass replacing the rear spring because the car to ride stiff. the springs that on the car now look like the picture on the bottom. the ones i think I may need are the ones on top. I would like to go back to a stock spring hoping it will soften the ride the car has 255/60/15 on the back. the rear sit at least 1 1/ 2 inch above the tire. not sure if the car factory springs rate are constant rate or variable rate. just wondering if i should replace the shocks first which I have to anyway because they leak to see if that makes a different or just change both and be done with. so the question is which spring is the right one. don't want to deal with the return policy. your advise or opinion will be greatly appreciated

If the shocks have to be replaced, I would do them first and see if you're happy with it. If not, then do the springs.

I don't have a suggestion for springs but for shocks I would definitely recommend Bilstein B6. If you buy the cheapest shocks out there you will be disappointed.

The top spring is typically the standard spring that would come in a Gbody, the bottom ones are a "cargo coil" style described as " These springs are ideal upgrades for vehicles that carry heavy loads. They are variable rate springs that change resistance as they compress, and they become progressively stiffer as the load increases. These cargo coil springs automatically adjust to changing load conditions to maintain proper chassis height and smooth ride characteristics."

Thanks for the feedback. the car is a daily driver with occasional back set rider.
I'm assuming Bilstein b6 4600 is what recommending.

I have the Bilsteins on my Regal they made a huge difference in ride quality over the auto store KYB rears and Gabrial fronts I had.
