I have my rear end apart and I was thinking about putting some new gears in. I appears that I have 2.41 gears in there now from the stamping on the gears. This also leads me to believe I have the Series 2 carrier. This is where I start to get slightly confused. The carrier is the part the holds the spider gears I am assuming. So if I am completely removing the carrier and replacing it with something else, does it really matter if I have a series 2 or 3? I am thinking about putting a 3.42 torsen posi unit in from a 2000 firebird. Any issues here other than needing new axles? Also the torsen unit I am looking at is a 3 series.

If you're replacing the guts, then who cares what's in it now?

i am doin the same to my car aswell 80 Malibu . But my cross pin is seized so ill be cutting my diff out on either side of the spiders. hopefully it just falls out
have a torsen gen 2
i read gen 3 needs a thicker ring gear. but have not found anything on torsen "gen 3 only" ring sets
want to use same size 12mm as the rear disc brake system used
even tho 7/16 will work bigger is better i hear
im looking to axles aswell "moser ones of course" just torn on the specifics .
moser has 3 options

all 28 spline of course same length and same price but f*ck the 80$ shipping from moser also sucks

#..............year .............. wheel bolt size threaded and pressed
A102801 78-81 TAP 1/2 X 20 & .453 HOLE 7/16 wheel studs

A102810 82-87 TAP 1/2 X 20 & .484 HOLE 12mm wheel studs *Requires 28 Spline Aftermarket Differential .. but idk if using a torsen is tech. after market but its stated

A102808 84-88 TAP 1/2 X 20 & .484 HOLE 12mm wheel studs

Yeah I have been looking at the complete posi kit from them. I assume I just get the complete kit and not worry about what gen I had.
