What needs to be done for this swap? Do i need to change the master cylinder or add a proportioning valve instead?
 
Not knowing which rear disc setup you're considering, here is a how-to on installing the 98-02 f-body *LS1* rear disc brakes. These are probably one of the easiest and cheapest yet most effective rear disc swaps out there.

As far as the master and prop valve is concerned, a lot of other factors will determine that. Power/hydro-boost/manual brakes? What front brakes you using? I'm probably going to use my stock g-body master and go from there. The prop valve can be easily modified to run rear disc or a new disc/disc one can be bought to replace the old stocker.

I'm running rear disc on my Monte & am still using the stock master cylinder and proportioning valve. The brakes work way better than stock and I have had no issues with them
 
^^ what he said. LS1 rear brakes and Blazer Dual Piston fronts on 2 other cars that I personally know of and we are all still using the stock MC and propotioning valve.
 
Thanks for the response guys, I already have the rear end and bought it this way with the conversion already done. They seem to be the same calipers that are on the front, my front brakes are stock. I will use my original master cylinder and prop. valve and go from there, if i need to lower the rear pressure i will use the adjustable prop. valve that came with the rear end. Here is a pic of my setup.

remember with that brake system you have pictured, you will not have an emergency brake, i know a lot of states that do car inspections will fail the car if you don't have one, or if it doesn't work. i know in New England that's an instant fail
 
Thanks for the advice 78MC but i know that i won't have an emergency brake cable to hook up but i am going to install a line lock and use that for my emergency brake. I have another question, after the install i have very little pressure going to the back, what has to be done to the prop. valve to get more fluid back there? Some guys mentioned that you can manipulate the stock prop. valve somehow by drilling the hole out a little bigger for the back to get more fluid through? Does anybody know the exact procedure on how to do this?
 
I did not modify my stock valve and my rear brakes seem to be working fine. I have also seen that some people have modified theirs and have thought about doing it to mine but my Monte stops better than my wife's 2005 VW Jetta GLI, so I don't see any reason to do it.
 
look i found a guy that told me how to do it the right way get the rear brakes of a 1979 eldorado cady they come with the e brake and the bracke pads are the same as the g body front brakes and he gave me a pattern to make my own brackets and weld them in that was 5 years ago and they have worked perfectly fine till these day the car can stop on a dime :wink:
 
well i hope the line lock trick works for you here, but i know here in New England, that will not fly. line lock iirc still only works with the engine running and producing pressure for it to work. a standard emergency break will work without the engine running.

IMHO, the best rear disc conversion is the Camaro/Firebird LS1 rear discs alot of the pro-touring guys are running them, besides its alot newer technology versus, the old school caddy rear disc setup which are very problem prone and not to mention expensive if you want to replace those calipers.
