I have been talking thru a friend about purchasing a 8.5 rear axle with rear disks already installed. Its on a parts car he bought for the drivetrain and doesn't know anything else about it other than the calipers have FORD scripted on them.

Anybody ever heard of a gbody rear disk swap using a ford caliper ? Would it be a bolt-on deal ?? The only thing I could find was a universal kit from ABS but I am unsure. I would look at the rear but its under a car 2 hours away from me.

nothing huh ?? Hoping to get out to see it this weekend and see if this is a Unicorn or a turd

Any chance at all that its a swaped complete 8.8?
Does it have the little tabs on the bottom of the housing? I dont mean to question anyones knowledge, just curious to why Ford parts would even be considered (other than because they were laying around) to upgrade to disc brakes.
Please make sure to update after you check it out. I have never heard of anything like this so I am very interested in what you will find.

I didn't bother to go out. The seller suddenly wants $1500 for it and he told me he has a buyer at that price. Its rusty , crusty and supposedly the car has sat outside for years so I don't have any interest. Asking about the rear disks and he said it was a kit that was ordered from somewhere in the states. Guy said the rotors were from a Camaro and they use the Taurus Calipers as they have the parking brake built in.

I have the camaro rotors, camaro caliper bracket set up so both calipers are on the back side of the axle and seville 1980 rear calipers which have the parking brake to install this spring

Sounds like it ended up being a turd with corn in it huh?

Well being off a Ford they will probably just end up rusting away faster than the rear frame rails on a G bod,,,,, wait what? LOL Sorry had a few after work today.

LOL yeah I wasn't too crazy about the ford setup either. I dunno if you ever worked on them but the piston is clocked to engage the parking brake. You need to compress and turn the piston at the same time when doing a brake change. I would have switched it over to LS1 rears like I have on my 7.5.
I think it was fate anyways. I was willing to go as high as $800.00 cash so I had it tucked away in an envelope for a couple weeks. Deal fell thru Sunday night. Monday night my son was playing Wii Baseball, I asked him a question which distracted him and he let the wii remote slip. It cracked my 51" plasma that I bought last spring and the screen went dead. So no rear for the Monte and I am shopping for a new TV
