not from the factory unless it is a hurst / olds or a 442

The '84 Hurst/Olds was based on the Cutlass Calais, so technically yes.

It would not be available in a regular Cutlass Calais, just a H/O...

The cars that got 8.5's were:
'84 Hurst/Olds
'85-'87 Olds 442's
'84-'87 Turbo Buick's
That's all.

From my experience.... I thought the Cutlass Calais was the little small front wheel drive cars??? Like a Grand am...
The Hurst Olds was a Cutlass Supreme....
Also the aero coupe monte carlos had the 8.5's too....

Your experience does not go back far enough. The N-body FWD Cutlass Calais was released for the 1985 model year. Prior to that, Olds used the Calais nomenclature on versions of the RWD Supreme body.

No, the Monte NEVER came with the 8.5. Only the 84 H/O, the 85-87 442, and the 85-87 GNs got that axle.

Which also in 85, the Salon name was brought back out of retirement, to replace the calais name on the RWD cutlass.

While I am certainly NO expert on the Calais name.... I have owned more than a few Olds myself.... including an 83 H/O and an 86 442, both of them bought new from the dealership. Still wish I had the H/O.... I currently have an 83 Cutlass street/strip car, a 71 442 W-30 that was bought NEW and a 72 442 street/strip car (the 72 is for sale).
As far as the 8.5's go.... The one that I pulled out of an all original AERO COUPE Monte Carlo certainly did come from the factory in that car.... I'm not saying they ALL did but that one certainly did and I can assure you that it came that way. I am no expert on those either but I have always been told that the AERO COUPES had them too.... I know of one that did anyway.

then some one added it, as no monte ever came from the factory that way

Again.... I'm no genius.... But apparently you did not read my previous post. This car was bought new by a friend of mine/co-worker. I saw that it had one in it and talked him into swapping it out with me a few years later before he got rid of the car.
If it wasn't an 8.5....it's the best clone that I have ever seen..... Funny thing is.... even a spare posi unit that I had for an 8.5 fit right into it. And was in operation for a few years before I sold the car with the same set up still in it and going strong.
Maybe some special option that was accidently placed on that particular car huh?????

well in that case he should have keep the car as it was a one of one from the best I can tell
