ok so i'm new to theis forum but i've had an 87 elco for 5 years now

shes got a bilt 700r4 trans sitting behind a 500 horse 383 small block.

resiently i found an 8.5 in rear end from a 96 chevy 1500 posi.

i no it needs to be shortened. i'm not consirned about that too much.

what i am consirned about is the fact that it is a cast iron differencial housing with no upper control arm mounts.

is there anything no matter how ratical that i can do to get around this it is a verry good deal and i dont want it to skate by me.

thanks for any help you can give me.

There is a member on here that fabricated a "U" shaped bar from one axle tube to the other (up and over the center section) and welded the upper control arm mounts to it

...or you could go with an aftermarket style 4-link setup, that uses brackets around the axles tubes

i did see that post

i was wondering how well that worked out. anyone here ever done that how did it work out.

how strong do u think that is

If it's the one I'm thinking of that also came with the sacrifice of not being able to run a full exhaust as there was no room for any kind of tailpipe over the axle because the mounting set up took up all the available room.

I would go with a rearend that physically bolts in like a 8.5 or aftermarket 9" etc. or with a 12 bolt and the correct upper control arms, a 4 link or ladder bar set up would work but your average gbody owner most likely lacks the proper tools and required knowledge to set one up correctly.
