Just dropped about $750 on 3.73 and a Detroit Tru-Trac for my 1988 Olds Cutlass 307 Brougham and sent it to the shop I was plotting to install it with.

Now I see everyone talking about "replacing this lame 7.5 inch rear end"

...

WHAT?!

I thought it was an 8.5 inch already!? The guy on the phone was the first to thoroughly question me when I was ordering the part, because he thought it was odd too and said most people order for the 7.5

so my q is if my model olds comes with the 7.5 only or if it even could be the 8.5 because if thats not even the case I need to cancel this order immediately.

Making things worse, I feel like I should be able to walk in my garage and solve this myself right now - but I dont know how and I know theres no numbers on the axle or anything

what to do?

Im going to be mad as hell if I have to send these damn parts back - especially if Im at the shop looking stupid when this mechanic has the rear end in pieces. I already had trouble getting this guy to agree to even do it, because hes really good and doesnt feel my car is a true hot rod so at first he wasnt too anxious to drop work on any of his oldschool chevies and hemi chargers

help!
