Rear gearing

Are you going to miss the posi with a 267  ?

I would suggest swapping in the 3.08 rearend as-is and see if you like the ratio first. Then if it's what you like, think about installing a posi carrier. That way, if you decide you aren't completely happy with the 3.08s, you can just sell it and look for something else without wasting any extra time/money.

I thought about that, just wasn't sure if I wanted to part with the posi.

it wont be driven in winter, it wont be driven a lot, but it will be driven by a 16 yr old!

so I just found a rear on craigslist for 125$ says its complete everything

not to mention its 7.5 and 3.08 gears, the only downfall is its not a posi rear

can I take my posi out and swap into it? easily?

99.9% chances it will have the right backlash using the same backlash shims that is in the rear the posi is going into. All you need to do if get a dial gauge to measure the backlash which needs to be from .006 to 010 Remember the bolts for the crown gear are left handed threads and I always use thread locker on the bolts when I install them. I'm sure the contact will be the same with the two carries but you'll want to check the contact pattern just to make sure, coat the gears with yellow oxide and if you don't have that then you can use white lithium grease, use the pattern for the used gears when you check them...

X2 I have set up numerous rears in the past for my own cars and for guys that raced circle track. When swapping everything over I use all the shims that came frome the housing I'm putting the gears and carrier into never even bothering to measure any of it, I just coat the ring gear with white lithium grease and give it a few rotations in both directions and take a look at the pattern. Thus far I have had no issues with noise or any other problems. I decided to do it myself after having a "PRO'' set up gears for me and they whined from the time I put the rear in till I grenaded the POS gov lock unit. These are just my results your mileage may vary 😀
