Is it worth it buying two sets of brake shoes to put the larger shoes both in front and behind the axle? I'm about to install a set of 7/8" wheel cylinders and well while I'm there I'm going to put a new set of drums and shoes on it. The shoes are only $14 a piece and that's Raybestos shoes. Up front I'm just using the stock brake setup with a set of Hawk HPS pads since I used the pads I previously bought, on my DD S10.
are u talkin about having a 2 long shoes instead of 1 short 1 long? if so its not a good idea. i think that if u install the primary and secondary shoe backwards or in ur case 2 primary shoes it will cause the brakes to lock up or something and all the pad material will get eaten away. brakes have a long and short shoe for a reason
i havent seen it done before. but i did see another post like this on a different forum but the guy never got an actual answer. with drums if u want a lil better stopping then u can always just adjust them real tight. and when i say tight i mean adjust till the drum only spins half or a full turn when u spin it by hand. and the longer shoe is the secondary shoe. i always get confused with the primary and secondary.
I brought my set from them. And I brought my S-10 manual Brakes Wheel Cylinders from O'reillys. I have not do the upgrade installed yet. Becuz Im want to install an adjustable proportioning valve first. So I can tweak for the street. And crank it up at the track. Im almost willing to upgrade them now. And see how it acts. Its just on rainy days and if a deer jumps at in front of me. I dont want the rear brake locking up before the front brakes. But they say with a front brake upgrade its alot better. And I have the 98 blazer front brake upgrade with SS lines all around.
This upgrade isnt really intended for "braking to stop the car". Its more for the Buick guys to have more braking on the rear so they brake boost more. Or in my case and others be able to build more rpm without the rear tires spinning.
I think I'm just gonna put the other set I bought on my Dad's car. They were sets leftover in a warehouse and for $13 for name brand shoes I guess I really couldn't go wrong.
