What is the best material for the bushings in the axle for the upper control arms. Want to change them out before it goes in. I will be running c3 fab tubular non adjustable uppers for now. I believe the bushings for the body side are poly( black) but not totally sure
I always ran poly but seeing the elongated hole from the bolt in my uppers from binding I would go with OEM style bushing and allow it some give. I now have a roto joint on the body side so I run the poly in the ears
I've heard over the years something to the affect that poly bushings used in the upper arms had a tendency to bind.
I'm not clear as to when they tend to bind. I'm thinking when the car is used in a road course/ handling situation.
I used Camaro 1LE high durometer rubber bushings in the rear lowers, urethane up front. I haven't replaced the uppers yet.
I think these bushings are NLA from GM.
you can do that...the mistakes I made was to box the uppers and use poly on both sides of the upper. The OEM bushings were designed to give some movement in the bushing and the upper itself would twist to deal with binding issues so I don't know what I was thinking when I boxed it along with the poly bushings. What I did was put all the stress on the 1/2" bolts and it elongated the hole in the upper on the rear end side to about 1 1/2 times it original size.
I would mix them because the uppers you have won't twist in a bind situation. Personally after I have seen how much of a bind there is with the uppers I would not run without a roto joint in one end.
