Going to a junkyard tomorrow that does not allow torches or grinders 🙁 so I have to take in old fashioned breaker bar and wrenches. I am going to be yanking the rearend off a 88 Monte. Are the driveshaft bots 7/16" heads? Are the 2 control arm bolts 18mm? What else holds the rear in place? Anything? I think the rear springs are simply sitting in pockets. I am trying to remember from the last time I took one off a cutlass....I want to make sure I take at least what I think I'm going to need for sure (and then some extra tools just in case). Has anyone tried to cut through the control arms with a hacksaw? They don't seem too thick....

Yep, you're right 7/16 & 18 mm. Good luck man, I could barely get my 18 mm bolts loose with an impact! You might want to go to auto zone & do the money back rental on some coil spring collapsers, so they don't fly out & hit ya.

If you bring a jack of some kind you can hold the housing up while you unhook the shocks, I used a cordless sawzall to cut the four control arms and the e-brake cables. Some cars doing the control arm bolts by hand could be nearly impossible if its rusty, cutting them with a hacksaw would take a while

Take a set of good quality 6 point sockets breaker bar, pry bars, floor jack, wrenches, pliers and snips. Don't forget to pack some elbow grease 🙂 .

Roger.
