My 82 has no provision for it, I guess because it was a diesel and didn't have CCC.

To the best of my knowledge of these cars over the past 25 or so years is that only 81 up cars used an optical sensor on the speedo as an input for the ecm regardless of whether it had cruise or not. 78-80 cars did not have ecm controlled engines and therefore did not have an optical sensor on the speedometer, when those early cars were equipped with cruise they used a transducer on the inner fender in line with the speedo cable. There may be exceptions to that rule such as diesel powered cars as pointed out by Texas82GP, or possibly Canadian cars that did not have CCC .
