I am removing my emissions/smog stuff out of my 1988 cutlass supremem to clear some room. I need some help with all the stuff I need to plug. I already pluged the A.I.R. hole on the heads. I nee to know about the Carb and what else plz help!!!!

why are ya removing all the stuff? are ya gonna race it? if ya have a ccc carb yer gonna have to get a non ccc carb so it will run properly after ya remove all the smog stuff, also prolly headers the charcoal cansiter, ya might have to change the sendig unit to a non return if yer getting rid of the fuel injection, a bunch more stuff i cant think of but, what you should do in the mean time is use the search feature, its AWESOME because the question you asked has most likey been asked 100 times or more. search is your friend

True about the search thing, especially about emissions stuff. But it seems like everytime I search... its flooded with totally unrelated stuff . Haha like ridiculous amounts of pages pertaining to Almost everything besides what I'm looking for lol

Really?
I just typed the word emissions in this forum and 9 topics addressing this issue came up.
Short answer is it its a 307 dont do it, youll lose horsepower and gas milage, GM put that stuff there for a reason.
Youll have improper mixture (probably wind up too rich and trash your bearings by too much gas in the oil), poor timing (car will become a pig) and youll lose lockup on the converter.
You can remove the AIR pump and tubes but other than that leave everything alone.
Now if your serious and swapping in a 350 or something then there are writeups on how to keep your AC, cruise, lockup on a non CCC setup...

if your really gonna do it then like the others said replace the carb with aftermarkets like a edelbrock 1406, then repace the distributor with a vacuume advance one.. cut all the emmissions/air pipes off the manifolds and crip them down or plug them so not to leak.. thats really all you can do or put on some headers you can also get rid of all the unwanted wires now if you want..

Don't you think a late model Qjet would be better? It's a true direct bolt on, it doesn't require an adaptor plate to fit, and it's better.

cut all the emmissions/air pipes off the manifolds and crip them down or plug them so not to leak.

Olds trivia; Olds engines have the air pipes in the heads, not the manifolds.

hes right if you ran the edelbrock you would need a adapter but there only like 40 bucks... but wats the best carb thats all on opinion and personal choice.. i have the brock 1406 and changed the intake to elbrock also.. to get rid of the egr.. but if you could find a non ccc q-jet would be a direct bolt on..

If you want to remove the emissions just disconnect everything that comes out of the passenger side firewall to the motor. Dont clip them just disconnect and tape up just in case you ever decide you need them later. Also remove all the leftover vacuum lines from the black back on the back of the motor on the drivers side. Just remove them and all their components. Make sure the leave the EGR connected though and all vacuum lines for ac and heating components. . Also you HAVE TO replace the carb. It will still run but not good. Also replace the distributor with a vacuum advance one from a late 70's one. If you have ac it will need to be rewired which is not hard, Its just 2 wires. If you know nothing about carbs just get an edelbrock 1406 and you should be fine. It will still run good and its easy to tune. If you have some experience get a non cc q-jet. They are a little bit harder to figure at first but are a great carbs. I did all this when I still had my 307 in my cutlass and it ran great(for a 307). As a matter of fact I still have the carb sitting on the motor if you need one. Its a rebuilt 72 cutlass qjet purchased from summit racing. It had about 300 miles on it before I put a 403 in my car that already had a qjet on it. If your interested in it let me know. You can have it for $50 plus shipping I paid $250 for it less then a year ago.
