If i was to remove my false soft top would i have to put the trim between the windows back in? what does it look like without it? seems like you would need something in there to fill the gap. and the trim under the back window, just wondering what im going to run into dont want to open a can of worms

dont want to open a can of worms

Save yourself the aggravation and put the new top on. It's a ton of work to take that off, body work and paint etc. All those mouldings are different on the back glass and ya need to put the bottom one back on. I think they look good on those years.

I'm having trouble trying to find a new one tho i saw a guy with 442 that had replaced his rag with a hard vinyl top. it sucks cause the only thing thats really wrong with mine is a seam splitting it just keeps getting bigger cause its hot as balls in the summer and shitty cold in the winter so I'm not trying to put another rag on it, afraid it'll be trashed in no time,
I'll take your advice for now haven't started anything yet, but they look more muscle once the tops off and smoothed out

I agree, up to you if ya wanna do all the work. You should decide soon, you don't want water gettin trapped in there. It'll rot that sumbitch in a hurry. Either way good luck with that.

I'm doin it now on my 86 cutty. Not too bad of a process. Just need to find the rear trim.

what about the gap between the window and where the soft top was wrapped in I heard you have to get new side windows off one that didn't have a soft top on it? or pack it with weather stripping which sounds kinda ghetto to me

Cant say for the 78 80 but probably about same as newer . Need the trim around window back . As well as trim for side windows . And yours may have to have the rear upper door opening swapped .

You cant just fill opening it wont look right . Find compare to a hard top first .
Good luck
