Replaced the front coils springs on the wagon today. The old springs were not only old, they were for a 260 engine and I've got a 305. They had been spongy and bottoming out and I've been putting this off because I've never done this before. Finally got around to it; it really wasn't that tough to do.

Here's a new one and an old one side by side.

The new springs are Moog 5662's. The ride seems good to me - pretty firm, but not bone jarring.

those 5662 are rated at 706 lbs, it's got to be stiff ride compared to what you took out..they are probably more than double the spring rate of the old springs..

Well done. That is NOT a job for noobs, so pat yourself on the back.

I agree with Bonnewagon!
My hats off to you. :notworthy:
All fingers and teeth are where they are to be you did good.

I did the same with my '81 Cutlass.
231 to a '72 Olds 350.
I out grew the back end up in the air hot rod look. 8)

I still need to change my passenger side spring out. I changed the front driver side, and called it a day. 😀 It wasn't too fun. I started out with just front springs, and ended up having to change both ball joints. And then decided to do my control arm bushings while I was at it. So eventually I will get around to that other spring.

That's the trick, doing it all at once. The ball joints, bushings, shocks, sway bar bushings, steering linkage, everything. It's amazing how great these cars ride when all that is done. The way I figure it, not only is it cheaper, but the time factor makes it worthwhile and then you can forget about the whole front end for 10 years or so.
