Spoke with the upholstery shop today and what a TON of amazing info I got! My buddy's club president has been doing upholstery for 49 years. What an amazing convo we had.
Here is what I learned:
*As others stated, the pre-made covers are known to have alot of fitment, quality and color issues. If your building a vehicle that you plan to keep and be proud of....stay away from them.
*Velour is becoming harder and harder to find for upholstery in general.
*Claret/Oxblood has always been..even back in the day, a very very hard color to find. Trying to find that color in velour now a days, is just about impossible.
*Stay away from seat dyes and such. He messed with it once at a customers request. Looked good, but in very short time, started bleeding out onto the customers clothes.
*As others also stated. My seats are in very good condition. And option is to have the seats disammbled and use all the good vinyl for a rebuild with a different material instead of velour.
*He even suggested going to a nice vinyl seat or faux suede with a bit of a custom touch added to tie in all the engraving. He is going to do a quick mock up for me tomorrow of something.
So looks like I will be having them redone.
He does full show Lowrider cover cars, so once we lock it in, it would be after the first of the year he can do them as he is completing two completes as we speak.
So I'm the interm, I'll knock out my carpet and seat belts then get these done.
Thanks for saving me a ton of headache, heartache and pocket book waste fellas!
