NBD I had to read it 3x to figure out what the hell we were talking about again LOLOLOLO
 
this is a center console shift car. do the wires extend from the column? or is the wiring supposed to be in the consle with the shifter?
 
yes as Gp stated its on the column. Shifter connects to the trans via a cable to the bracket mounted on the trans. The bracket is connected to the shifter linkage. The linkage connects to the column ( look under the brake booster on the firewall about the height of the oil filter and you can see it ). As you shift gears with the console shifter you will see the collar on the column rotate. You can take out the 2 bolts holding the dash portion of the steering column off and pull it down a couple inches. You will see the white switch I mentioned on top.

Do your reverse lights come on in any other position ? I had to park my car in front of a glass window so I could adjust them from the drivers seat and see when they came on.

found the problem
transmission has been changed and the linkage that goes from the bracket on the transmission to the column under the hood is missing. time for a wrecking yard crawl. weee!
