ring and pinion swap

Can I use 3.42 gears with my stock gear ratio 7.5 carrier? Do I need to use a different Carrier?
I have a 3.73 gear set on a s10 stock 7.5 2wd carrier as well what should I use?

I have a chance to get a 3.42 ring and pinion out of a 96 Z28 for 20 bucks... Are the pinion splines the same or do I need a yoke out of the Camaro for it to work?

I am pretty sure the pinion spline is the same, I would grab it on general principle.

The last swap I did was 99-04 S10 3.73 into my '79 El Camino. I am pretty sure I kept the stock (El Camino) yoke.

The 7.625 ring gear should work fine in the 7.5 housing.
If you use the carrier (posi unit etc.) you need 28 spline axles!

Im planning on using strictly ring and pinion and keeping my stock carrier.

I missed that he was just after the gears and not the carrier
