what's a mushroom lifter?

it's a lifter that is wider on the bottom so the valve opens sooner and stays open longer...to use them you have to spot face the bottom of the lifter bores

How do you put them in?

you don't want or need to use a mushroom lifter, they were used 25 years ago in nascar cause they had rules about the cam and these allowed them to in effect change the cam profile without "cheating". With street cars there is no rule about cams so you can get the lift and duration you want from a cam. These nascar teams are always playing with the rules and some of the inventions we can use, this isn't one of them

and if your just asking about the installation they have to go in before the cam is installed cause they have to go in from the bottom

Yep, just curious. That's the only way I could see them goin in.

Good call on the mushroom lifters, and thanks for explaining the deal on checking rocker ratios. You can also buy different length pushrods, and adjustable push rods to do the same thing as increasing rocker ratio's. Would they check that too?? ..........mickey-d

anything that changes the profile of the cam they'll catch it with the computer program they have...and of course an easy way to check to see if the cam has been played with is the vacuum reading..
