all kinds of crazy rules.
I can retire from State of Texas with rule of 80 (yrs of service+age), age 65, or before 65 with at least 10 yrs of svc but not get a pension until 65. I did my spreadsheet and I've got a lot of variables depending on projected income.
as for age and SS, that's tricky. maternal side relatives dies anywhere from 98 to 82, while my dad is still alive at 91 but we know nothing of any other part of his family.

of course, the Texas legislators have the golden parachute. pension is not tied to their state paycheck, but instead the pay of a state judge, which starts at $140k/yr
