i've read on a few forums that a common prob with 71 sbc 307's is the cam wear. i wanna replace the cam with a new stock one and upgrade to 1.6 rockers. is there gonna be any issues of clearence between the stock piston and valves if i do this? i know my motor is only a 200hp stock 307, the only thing on it right now is aftermarket headers and a performer intake w/650cfm carb. so i just wanna know if i do switch out the stock 1.5's for 1.6's will there be any issues.

sounds good but all the cams i can find are bigger than stock, so if thats the case, will i even need to upgrade the rockers?

higher ratio rockers actually increase your lift at the valve, sort of like a larger cam does, iirc. Therefore you wouldnt need as big a cam to achieve your desired lift. and therefore make a little more power. Im sure if you contact some of the cam manufacturers directly instead of say a jeg's or summit they could give you a part number to a very close to stocksize cam for the 307 SBC.

i called jegs(suprised there open on easter)and the guy said that they dont have a stock cam for the 307 but a mildly larger cam, and the whole kit would go for 195.99. im wanting to get the heads rebuilt and checked, anyone know about how much i gotta shell out? ballpark is good or if anyone has actually had it done what did you pay?

not till i pull it. i can give ya the block and head codes.
block: 39700024
heads: 8927185
the code basicly says the block was built in 71 and the heads were built the around same time. and the valves are small

thanx man, yer the best! :notworthy:

the head #'s i gave were wrong they'er 3927185 /68'-76'/307-327-350
the block has flat top pistons and the heads are 76cc and a compression of 8.2:1 thats what ive found out so far.
