I plan on redoing my motor in the nearer future.
My question is i have a stock (that i know of) 1970 010 block.
If i put the summit IK-200 heads on it( with cam intake lifters top half of the motor basically)
The valves are 2.02/1.60, will i have to worry about them hitting my pistons?
How do i know how much valve relief i should get if i am going to have to worry about that?
Thanks guys

When rebuilding are you going to be changing pistons and if so what kind? Forged or hyperutectic? Also what cam and size lift are your going to be using? All this need to be considered. I've used a Speed Pro H345NP hyperutectic 350 piston and put a .550 lift cam and edelbrock heads with 2.02 valves and had no issues.

Your best bet is to playdo check it. Put the cam and lifters in. Put some playdo on one of pistons just the valve relief area. Put a head on and adjust the valves on the one piston the way you would as if your going to run the engine. Spin the engine over and the valves will make an indentation in the valve relief. Take the head off and in the middle of the indents carefully cut it in half. meausure the thickness. The intake needs a minimum of .080" clearance and the exhaust need .100".

Hope this helps.

Hurst1979olds is dead on, do exactly as he says to determine valve clearance. Also, goto a local machine shop and ask them what precision tools you'll need to do some work yourself, you might be better off to ask a friend who's experience, or even get some help if this is your first build.

Just remember, you can't ever go wrong buying tools! 😀
