Ok, I've been mostly involved with lower level stock car racing so I have NO experience with headers. All we use are cast manifolds. That is my disclaimer so I apologize if this is a dumb question.

My question is, do shorty style headers bolt up to stock exhaust? I'm doing a mild SBC swap into my 79 Malibu wagon and the stock exhaust is very nice still. I would rather not run new exhaust right now as I just want to get the motor in and drive it. I'll worry about better exhaust later. I would however like to upgrade to headers now if I can.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the exhaust will not bolt directly to it. I would think that a decent exhaust shop could make it bolt to it though

Yes, the TES shorty headers have a crossover and bolt up to the stock cat convertor location.
That's what I have in my car. I bought the headers first then saved $$ for a year and bought a cat-back system

Very cool. Thanks guys for the fast replies. The TES setup is what I was looking for but couldn't find. Unfortunately, it's a little spendy for my project compared to a plain set of shortys. I'll probably use the stock manifolds until I upgrade.

 I didn't even think about the Y-pipe

I was thinking about the same idea "fig865" had, bolting the exsisting exhaust straight to the shorty headers :|

If you were closer I would offer to sell you mine 🙂 The TES setup was a great improvement on the 305 but now that I have the 350 I would like full length headers.
