Non GBody question.... what’s everyone’s go to favorite as far as scan tool diagnostic units go? Looking for bidirectional controls and seems like snapon solus edge units are really good but still pricey even used
Couple weeks ago traded in my verus on a brand new solus edge and i absolutely love it, seen 2 guys buy matcos and hate them. Not trying to be a fanboy here but from what I’ve seen sort of an OE scanner (Chrysler’s WiTech2 setup is awesome) the snap on scanners seem to be the industry standard, however I have heard ok reviews about the newer Autel stuff but no personal experience
We just got an Autel at work. So far it's been great. We got it with plans to add the ADAS software to aim the cameras on newer cars. We also have a Snap-on Edge, which is a lower optioned tool than the Solus, but from my understanding has the same operating system minus a scope. It was updated about six months ago and we'd probably sell it.
Yeah I’ve been searching around and im going to get a used one i think since i wont be using it everyday and not looking ti spend $3,500 or more on a new one, but still want to have something reliable. Already had a couple cheap hand scan tools go out. Thinking the Solus is going to be my best bet as long as i can find something updated recently. Newest vehicle my family or friends have is my 2015 silverado so going to try to get the 17.4 or high update just to be safe. But also thinking of grabbing up an old red brick scanner since no one seems to want them anymore. Can usually find cheap and they are still amazing for older cars... granted ya have the adapters and keys for them.
I appreciate the offer but i'm going to pass. kinda set on a Solus at the moment. I talked to my Snapon guy today about the Ethos and he says they have had a lot of trade ins and returns on them.
Are you a tech using to for work, or a shade tree guy? I love my cheapy Harbor Freight for a quick code pull. I use my Solus if I have a driveability issue or need live data. Got the Solus off the Snap On truck used for $400. Was 4 years outdated but I didn't need anything that new anyways.

Just a hobby at the moment but slowly turning into more. My stepdad lost his CDLs due to medical and had to sell his semi so now he is buying cars and the auction and i'm fixing them for resale. Actually picked up a used Solus ultra last night for $750 with 19.2 loaded in it
