This is for an 86 SS. Aluminum intake. It has been removed before(years ago).
I'm struggling with the housing bolts. Using vibration and penetrating oil I'm only able to get a 1/4 turn using a breaker bar for leverage. While applying pressure I tap the end of the socket. Are the bolt threads longer than the threaded manifold - seems that way. I'd like to use heat but there is too much rubber materials nearby. Right now I applied penetrating oil while trying to enjoy my tomato and cucumber and onion salad. (maybe that's the problem - not enough red meat!)
I'm worried to snap the bolt off. Could I use a battery powered impact without risk? Should I only use the manual method and take my time or just power it off and hope for the best?

Thanks wreck, my electric impact worked at finally loosening the bolt. The bolt thread picked up a sliver of aluminum from the intake threads. I'll clean them and use a little anti seize.

Keep in mind I have a spare intake here from when my car still had the 305 that you are welcome to if you need it.

You were really lucky they came out. What usually happens is the bolt freezes to the housing and what I have done is strike the capscrew with a designated striking instrument(Hit bolts on top with hammer) and cut/break the housing. When you go back together use proper length bolts with anti-seize. Stainless may be a good choice. May have to freshen threads up with a tap.
