5.7 liter Diesel in Greenville Nc
I was offered 3 grand for my car today. Guy wants the diesel block says these make mean racing engines. I just cannot see her torn to pieces. 88k original miles runs awesome. I just can't . Right decision I think!

See what he will pay for the engine, and use the money for a 455 swap.

This is all about attachment - I know I wouldn't sell my 83 because it's been in the family since day one. On the other side the market is in the sewer esp Gbodys let alone a diesel and that's a pretty good price. I tried selling my 51,000 mi GP LS for $4500 and not even a question on it. If there is any thoughts on selling - now is the time. If you plan on keeping the car I would strongly recommend running a fuel additive since the diesel fuels are low sulfur and you are losing the lubricity it supplied which will not set well with your injection pump.

I wouldn't say the market isn't there for g-bodies in general, but for GP's yes. They just aren't as popular as the rest. There's a guy in my area selling a 30k mile '80 that's spotless for $5k and it's been for sale well over a year. From my standpoint I won't even give a g-body a second look if it doesn't have buckets & console, I'm almost totally against any kind of vinyl top now too. It all boils down to what the car is worth to you. I know I'll never get half of the money back that I put into my car but you do it for th love of th hobby I suppose.

i wouldn't sell it either, but that doesn't make it a good decision. it's only a good decision if you feel right about it as it relates to your reasons for owning it.

Don't sell it. Unless you are desperate for cash you will always regret it. Sounds like the car will be scrapped or derbied once the engine is out. Like selling a family pet to a butcher........
See if you can locate a diesel block and make a little money. 🙂

I'm surprised that guy wants to fork over 3k for your car just to obtain the diesel block considering you can still find diesel blocks for cheap.

As far as selling it goes, if you have any real attachment to your car then don't sell it. If it's nothing more than a car to you then sell it and buy something else you'd really rather have.

Don't sell it the Olds Diesel is only about 3% of Olds sold and it's not easy to find parts for. 3 grand is 1 or 2 short of what a car in yours condition would be worth out here. You southern guys take a lot for granted w/ those rust free cars! I can find your car 5-10x again in my county, but you would see why your car is such better condition they would all be rusted out! Sell the DX block and do a swap if anything. A nice olds small block can still get close to 20mpg if you don't tune it for the drag strip and use a low cfm carb...
