Hey guys.

Well, my GP was hit a couple times when the previous owner had it. So the door and fender were replaced. They were both replaced with equal parts as stock. I'm not sure of the original color of the fender, but the door was a dark blue. I can't tell what year it says or what the VIN is on it to be able to see what year it is. Regardless, the door is nothing but problems. The passenger side door is perfect. The glass is solid, the door opens and closes thuroughly, and the lock works great. Meanwhile, the drivers side, I have to open from the inside. The door doesn't close completely unless you slam the hell out of it, and sometimes the little metal flap inside the door closes and makes a terrible bang noise when you try to close the door because the door doesn't close. The window is a bit shakey too. It's just a terrible thing.

Now, to fix the not being able to open it from outside problem, I remove the door panel and eventually shoved my hand to where the action was supposed to be to open the door. Turns out that the thin little metal post came out of the bracket that goes down and opens the door. So instead of the post pressing down and opening the door, it presses down and goes nowhere. But it opens from the inside because that littlke post isn't needed. So eventually, I fit that post back into the bracket and it worked! For a minute. The next time I opened it from the inside, the post popped back out. So I fixed it again, and it did it again. WTF? Is there a new piece or pieces that I need to buy to fix this? Or do I have to solder this postto the bracket to hold it in place? lol.

And about the closing issue. Is the striker or something messed up? How do I go about fixing that? I have a shop manaul but it doesn't say much about the striker...

Thanks guys!!

How are you door pins and bushings. Can you lift at the back of the door and feel play? If so do those first they may not be the problem but they will compund it.

It sounds like there is a clip missing off of the linkage for the outside door handle and finding a new one should keep it in place.

Ok now after both of those are fixed while you still have your door panel off up by the top of the door are black fuzzy things the window rests on. chances are those and your window sweeps are worn and that is causing the window rattles. You may be able to adjust them but i have never had any luck with that and usually made a sealing problem with the window trying to fix it.

Now after the pins and the clip are restored if you still have problems with the latch you may want to pull the door pin and shut the door and see how it lines up. Poor alignment can cause your problem but it would be the last thing I would check just based on my previous experience with G-bodies.

Could be just the latch pin needs to be moved around a bit and tightened up? (The big pin sticking out of the rear-side of the door opening) Especially if the latch is just banging on it and not latching. Could be too the latch mechanism in the door is binding up or otherwise not moving around the pin like it should...

Could be what was said above. Given the fact that the door and fender were replaced, you should also check that the cowl isn't bent. The cowl being the post that the door hinges are mounted on.
Take a look at the fender/hood/header panel alignment. Be sure the gaps are the same all the way around and the hood fits squarely.
Next as was stated above remove the striker. The striker is that odd looking bolt sticking out of the B post. Now check that the door closes w/o too much effort to hold it in place. It normally won't stay in the shut position but if if starts to stop at about 1/3-2/3 of the way, chances are the cowl is twisted. If not, close the door w/o the striker in place and check the gap all the way around. Do this with the window down. Make sure all the body lines match up. There are many adjustments on these door hinges. Take some good pics and we can help you along.

Where do you stand on this problem now??
Alot of times the glass needs to be adjusted out, it hits the weatherstrip too soon. Does the door close OK when the window is down?

If the door lines up well now with no play (body lines all look good) then play with the latch. Otherwise, there is a LOT of adjustment in the hinges, but they are a PIA to adjust - especially with on person. I would bank on poor adjustment since the door has been replaced.

And yes, as mentioned above - there is a clip you will need for the end of that rod that will hold it in place.
