anyone on here know a good shipping company with reasonable rates! lscustoms wants to buy a engine from me and the first qoutes were really high!

It would have to be crated but you can try Forwardair or Landair. Both have good US Domestic rates. Esp if you can drop and recover from their shipping dock

What is the origin & destination? If its domestic you can call 3-4 LTL carriers and bid them against each other. Picking up and delivery at the dock is much cheaper. Your first quote will probably be the tarrif rate. Discounts of 15-20% from that are not out of the norm particularly for dense freight.

Go to www.ttnews.com and look for the LTL TOP 100 list. It will have all of the numbers in one place. Choose a regional carrier if they service the origin and destination. Negotiate with your local terminal managers on price/service.

Forwarders/Brokers can move it for you too but you pay them to make the calls and they make a margin on the freight cost.
