Anyone here recommend a particular brand/type? Also, what causes the rear of a vehicle to ride/sit slightly higher than the front? Is it the shocks? Springs?

My favorite brand of shock would have to be Bilstein, they last and perform. If you want to go cheaper, I have also had good luck with KYB monotube shocks. I'm really not a fan of monroe shocks or parts store brand shocks, they work, but they offer nothing in the handling department. Shocks shouldn't have an effect on ride height unless they happen to be air shocks. It's probably something like spring helpers or some type of cargo coil.

your springs hold up the car, shocks dampen. Your front springs are probably soft / sagging, or like MikesElco94 said the rears may have been swapped to cargo coils or different vehicle springs, if you look at the rear shocks and they have small coils around them they are going to possibly hold it up a bit,

X2 on Bilsteins. Best I have found.

Thanks all. I did a quick search on this site (after posting), and found a lot of useful info from previous members about shocks. It seems like Bilsteins are preferred, and most agree they are an all around good shock. I'll prob end up having them installed.
