I have a chance to save an 87 mcss 3.73 rear end from the car crusher. But it has alot of rust scale on it. So my question is, is it savable and what should i pay?
Joe

3.73 posi rears are about 200 buxx around here

Save it. Wire wheel that SOB, spray it black, and sell it. Providing the LSD works, if it has an LSD. If not, someone would like to have it instead of it being crushed.

It may not be an 8.5" rear, but any rear is better than no rear if the stock one ever blows! I'm sure someone could have a use for it.

I got $250 each for the last 2 SS 3.73 posi rears I sold.

well i pulled the trigger and bought the axle. it came from an 87 mcss. i was hoping to get the 200-4r trans, driveshaft and crossmember also. but when the yard operator tipped the car on its side, he caught the driveshaft, benting it and broke the transmission housing. aaahhh!
so i removed the pan and grabbed the governor.
should i grab the valve body also? are these special or unique to the mcss that its worth grabbing?
joe

Thank you, got it.
