Oooo, I see, so there's no use for it in my case, I have the stock original 307 engine in mine.
As for what I want to acomplish is just to keep it happy, just trying to get it to have very good spark.
I bought the car 3yrs ago and have only changed the spark plugs when it comes to the ignition.

if you ever do want to use the box buy two and rig one up as a back-up. Look at any race car that uses them and you'll always see a back-up unit on board. There is a reason why they have a back-up

Is the engine completely stock, have you swapped a cam or anything? If you plan on keeping everything original, you're going to need the computer controlled HEI distributor. I'd take it out and check the gear and then replace cap, rotor, coil, etc. Like Longroof said you can upgrade the module and plugs its just my preference to use stock copper plugs.

If you're not wanting to keep the computer or keep it all original you have other options. But for a 442 it will be worth money someday if you keep it all close to stock.

If the car is stock and still running good, I'd personally leave it alone. I have run a 6A unit until it crapped out one day. It did idle nicer and got slightly better gas mileage on the road. My engine has a slightly hotter cam, nothing too over the top.

As for wires, I like the Taylor 8mm Spiro-pros or the MSD 8.5 Super conductor wires. I'd say if everything is okay, leave it alone and enjoy it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

yeah, ima just keep it original, im going to go ahead and replace cap, rotor, coil, wires plugs etc....
only because ive never changed it and whats on there looks like some cheap stuff.
let me start my shopping on this firday morning, that way ill have something to do while irene hits rhode island, lol

Lots of racers have spare just about everything. Some even take motors and back up cars. To have a spare MSD box doesn't mean they fail all the time.

Like someone else said, with a stock motor, a box probably won't amount to much (esp a 307 sorry) It will start on a dime every time. But a fully built motor will benefit with more spark, better idle, and maybe a mile or 2 per gallon.

I have used a DUI distributor before. Motor ran real clean with it but they are expensive.

I have to stock 307 in my olds Delta 88 and 2 weeks ago just did a ignition tune up here is what I did.

1. New AC delco plugs $18.00 Oreillys
2. New MSD cap and rotor $30.00 Oreillys
3. New MSD coil $70.00 ebay
4. New MSD 8mm spiral core wires $50.00 ebay

Overall im very happy with the MSD products it really help pep up my boat anchor 307
