So my wife decided that we are finally ready to go camping. Criteria: a full bath(separate toilet, shower, sink), not too big, not too small, and so forth. Our "stoutest" tow option was her 1997 4Runner. Although a competent vehicle, I did not approve of lugging around a 4,000lb. trailer with it. We needed a tow vehicle. Shopping mainly on FB marketplace for anywhere from 1973-1998 Chevy/GMC trucks, Suburbans, etc., I found this one about 3 hrs. away west of Indianapolis. Drove up with a buddy August 19th, made a deal, and drove it home. 1987 R20(3/4 ton) Suburban, 454, TH400, 3:73 14-bolt full floater rear. Looks like a mild resto at some point- all intact, 90% fresh shoddy paintjob (hood needs work), mostly clean interior- two row seats, captain's chairs in front, ill fitting dash cover, clean engine, Holley Sniper, late model wheels(16"x6.5") with dry rotted tires. The best part is the 98% rust free body. I know fresh paint is suspicious, but underneath is astoundingly clean. Ordered new wheels (16"x8") and tires the first week. Took it out on our first camping outing to Lincoln State Park 45 miles away and made it home alive and still married. Oh, and there's a camper too- 21 ft., blah, blah, blah.

That thing is clean underneath for sure! I'd 4L80 swap it and call it a day.
