So Cal
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

I got a brand new engine put in my car back in August. When I go to start the car i have to pump the gas a lot for it to start. If I don't pump the gas it just keeps trying to start without turning over. What could be the problem?

I'm not mechanically inclined or under the hood car savy at all so please help!!!

Thanks guys

It's trying to start but not turning over :?: or turning over very slowly :?:

Does the carburetor have an operational choke :?:

If the choke is present and working ... then you timing is most likely off  You will need to get a timing light and time your engine properly. Get help with this if you need to. The timing is very important in the driveability and performance of your engine 8)

When I go to start the car it will try and try to start but won't turn over. Then I'll stop and pump the brakes. Then the next time I try to start it it will fire up. This only happens the first time each day that I try to start the car. If I drive it all day it doesn't do it, only the first time each day.

Honestly, I don't know what an operational choke on the carburetor is. I got the carburetor rebuilt the same time I got the engine put in.

Yeah I talked to the guys at the shop that put it in and basically they told me "drive it for a bit and let the engine break itself in and then bring it back and we'll check everything".

I figure the problem is something that I can't fix myself but I don't want to go into a shop blindly and have them try to rip me off.

If that's what they said I wouldn't be touching the car, they could say you screwed it up and charge you for it. It needs an adjustment so I'd go back and let them test it and fix it. The problem your having won't be cured by breaking in the engine
