So I started a hunt for a 200-4r today. Got some questions.

Re: trans

why will you be sorry if you don't hook up the tcc?

Maybe he will be sorry from the bad gas mileage.

and it will cause excessive heat in the trans, never a good thing.

trans

thats not exactly true, transmissions have run for years before tcc's were invented....back in 1980 the factory reps at the schools said that if you disconnect the tcc you would burn up the trans!!! and all that was is in an effort to keep us from disconnecting them and solving there problem of the converter locking and unlocking at 45 mph... i got to tell ya it was a nightmare back then, with a ccc carb system and a tcc acting up...i'am glad those days are gone 😀 ...jesse

but those transmissions were designed without the lock up. if the trans is equipped with a TCC and it's not working then the extra slippage will heat up the fluid.

trans

i beg to differ,my coverter is a b&M 3000 lock-up that i first installed in my 200r4 i never hooked up the tcc and drove it some 100,000 miles and drag racing it a lot. when i put a 100 shot on it,it burnt out the second gear band twice, so i built a 700r4 and swaped out the conveter to the 700r4 this was in 2001 and i'am still running it as hard as i can..i have a trans fluid temp gauge in my car an it's never been over 190 dergrees no mater on the strip or interstate..jesse 😀

i've seen them run hot (not exceptionally, but enough), then you fix the lock up and things are good again. maybe it's just on the stock trans/TC.

Don't forget to get the kickdown cable and linkage for the carb as well!!

What am i exactly looking for, and how to get these out?

Not a kick down but a TV(throttle valve) cable. This tells the trans the throttle angle and the trans regulates its own internal pressures. Without it you will almost certainly burn some clutches due to incorrect internal pressures.

The valve body and governor are a set so you will need them both if you take the trans you found. Is the VB still there or has someone beaten you to it?

Again, What exactly am i looking for, and how to get them out? I have a repair manual for a regal, so a more technical term for it might help for me to look it up.

Probably best to take the whole trans. Trying to open one up 'in the yard' is not something I'd recommend. The valve bodies have internal differences such as spring rates, bore sizes and such making the shifts different.

If you plan on 'opening up' a 200 4R you might want to get a copy of this as well as the supplement when it comes out(He claims to be working on it).
