Well that doesn’t make sense at all. The 4.3 wasn’t available in the Monte/Grand Prix until 85’. Suppose the seats could be swapped in, makes more sense than the 4.3 but then the model year is wrong.
Does it LOOK like an '82 except for the engine? Or does it look like an '85 with '82 interior?

You can register anything with a VIN

It takes about 2 years for them to catch up on them

I drove around in a tagged 77 C10 for 18 months

Went to re-register it and that is when it threw a red flag

But this is NY ...home of the nippleheads!

Hmmm, since he has had a Fla antique plate on it (I see it peeking around his blackout attempt) it seems to be title-able and register-able.

Bah, I will wait for a MC or Cutlass.

There was a dead mint Monte in PA untouched still had the wire wheel hubcaps.

Wonder what happened to it?

I know, I said Bah, but I wanna know.

What are the exterior differences for an '82 vs an '85? Is there anything I can ask that is distinctive to either year (other than the 4.3 TBI) that would help?

The car has '82 taillights, but it seems the 4.3L fuel injected Chevy V6 was not actually available in the Gran Prix until '86.

Maybe the entire drivetrain out of a later Monte or Gran Prix was swapped in at some point (along with all the supporting EFI components like fuel tank, electric in tank pump, lines, etc.)

It sure is an oddball car. If it wasn't an hour and a half away, I would have already seen it and taken detailed CLEAR pics of everything...

Take the drive, my buddy drove an hour and a half just to look at the Monte SS that I ended up buying.

More info from the seller:
So I’m the second owner of the car , I Owned the car for 16 months , I just called her . She said her dad replace the engine in 89 with a Monte Carlo engine . She said the oil pump went bad on it . And that’s why they replaced it . He had his own shop in Tampa . He is not living any more . I’ve gotten a lot of emails about that . I’m pretty sure that year came with a 3.8 ? When I bought the car I really didn’t care what was in it . I was going to drop a 350 in it and be done . The engine that’s in great , good oil pressure . No smoke from it . Transmission shift lime glass . It’s a great cruiser”

Except he says it has a rear main seal leak Typical old school SBC issue. Since that wouldn’t affect plans for the car it would be a don’t care anyway. Anyone else on here in Fla interested in it? I can go take pics of it. He also said this a short time later:

“If you think you want it I’ll let it go for 4000 firm .you really have to see it in person . It’s really clean car . Have a good day .”

Seems reasonable if it is as nice cosmetically as he says. The pics suck to be able to tell without showing up there...

Already dropped it 1000 buxx its an easy $3500 buy

probably 3k it you work your magic 🤪

Other than the vinyl top :puke:It looks like a nice, clean, very well optioned car plus T-tops I'm sure would put it on the rarer side.
I did also like those two tone paint jobs with the fading body stripe.

The T-tops is a deal killer for me on any car. Besides body flex, I think it dates a car.
